As a 21-year-old Texan, I know firsthand the challenges young people face when entering the workforce. Too many young Texans are stuck with low wages, limited benefits, and few opportunities to advance. The promise of the American Dream feels out of reach for so many of us, and that’s unacceptable.
We need workforce development policies that create good-paying, entry-level jobs and give young Texans the tools they need to thrive. By investing in job training programs, partnerships with local businesses, and affordable higher education, we can equip students and workers with the skills they need to succeed.
This starts with fully funding public education and expanding access to hands-on learning opportunities, like apprenticeships, internships, and vocational training. We also need to incentivize industries to partner with schools and colleges to ensure that students are prepared for high-demand careers, from renewable energy to technology to the trades.
Every young Texan deserves the chance to earn a living wage and start building a future. By prioritizing workforce development, we can create an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few. Together, we can make Texas a place where young people don’t just survive, but thrive.
